Mary Melissa Clayton born 1863 in Mississippi and died 1930 in Jasper Alabama. She is buried in Oakhill Cemetery in Walker County Alabama (Jasper). She married Jefferson Freelon Haley April 26, 1886 in Lee County Mississippi.
Mary Malissa Clayton, born 1863 in Dekalb Co. Alabama or Mississippi. She was said to have lived and worked on a farm at a young age and became impregnated by a Dr. she worked for and had a daughter name Hattie. She then married my great-grandfather JEFFERSON FREELAND HALEY, (note; see Haley Family above) They lived in Oklahoma and Mississippi (Itawamba Co.,Lee Co.)

Jefferson Freeland Haley died in Oklahoma abt 1898,Melissa and their children came back home to her family via train to Lamar Co. Al. She later married? Smith, and was married for one week and divorce due to the fact he abused her, she died in 1930 in Jasper Al., Melissa had high blood pressure and back then it was said that the Doctor would draw blood to lower it. She love gospel music and the day before she died she was excited a bout a new gospel record she had just bought, family said she had a stroke the next day. She is buried in Oakhill cemetery (Walker Co.)
