AFTON-Curtis R. Fitzgerald, 78, died in his home on Route 2 at 10:50 p.m. Wednesday.
He was born in Nelson County Dec. 11, 1897, a son of the late O. H. and Hethia Puckett Fitzgerald. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Dola Fitzgerald, April 18, 1971.
Surviving are his second wife, Mrs. Ethel M. Fitzgerald of Afton; two daughters, Mrs. Randolph (Nora) Glass of Afton and Mrs. Billy (Ada) Alexander of Eagle Rock; four sons, Herbert Fitzgerald, Windon Fitzgerald and Grover Fitzgerald, all of Waynesboro, and Malcolm Fitzgerald of Triangle; one stepson, O. H. Fitzgerald of Martinsville; five sisters, Mrs. Susie Perry and Mrs. Cecil (Virginia) Barker, both of Waynesboro, Mrs. Willie (Essie) Fitzgerald of Afton, Mrs. Dora Spencer of Lovingston, and Mrs. Carrie Story of Charlottesville; one brother, James H. Fitzgerald of Waynesboro; 34 grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; and a number of great-grandchildren.
The body will remain at McDow Funeral Home pending funeral arrangements.

Note: Curtis Robert Fitzgerald was the son of Obediah Fitzgerald and Mary Hethia Gleanda Puckett. His first wife was Dola Racie Meeks, married on November 19, 1916 and his second wife was Ethel Somers Mohler Fitzgerald, married in August 1972.
