Elmer F. Beaston, age 87, of Spring Run, PA passed away on Monday, January 09, 2012 in Chambersburg Hospital.

Born February 27, 1924, he was a son of the late Robert and Lillian McElhaney Beaston.

Upon graduation from Dry Run High School, Elmer entered the U.S. Army. During World War II, he served with the 4th Infantry Division "Big Ivy", landed on Utah Beach, and participated in five major engagements in the Central European Theatre. He worked as a payroll clerk and carpenter at Letterkenny Army Depot retiring August 29, 1980. Elmer was a member of Amberson United Methodist Church and the McCartney Post #232 American Legion having been a past post commander. He enjoyed square dancing and was an avid hunter, fisherman and was an excellent carpenter.

Surviving are his four children, Elmer F. Beaston, Jr. (wife Deborah) of Chambersburg, Christine F. Metcalfe (husband James) of Willow Hill, Pamela F. Beaston (fiancé Greg Schoen) of Spring Run, and Stacy Jo Hull (husband James, Jr.) of Chambersburg; his long-time companion Mildred Harry; 10 step-grandchildren; and 16 step-great grandchildren.

Elmer was preceded in death by his wife Virginia on November 9, 1984; and three brothers, Glenn, John, and Eugene Beaston.

Funeral Services will be held on Friday, January 13, 2012 at 2:00 p.m., in the Amberson United Methodist Church. Interment will follow in Amberson Union Cemetery, where graveside military services will be conducted by James W. McCartney Post #232 American Legion Honor Guard. Rev. Ed Sharp will officiate.

The family will receive friends two hours prior to the service at the church on Friday. Arrangements are entrusted to Agett-Geisel Funeral Home, Dry Run, PA.

In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully requests memorial contributions be made to Amberson United Methodist Church, 18889 Amberson Road, Amberson, PA 17210, Upper Path Valley Presbyterian Church Community Meals Program, P.O. Box 128, Spring Run, PA 17262 or Fannett-Metal Fire and Ambulance Company P.O. Box 51, Dry Run, PA 17220.
