Nancy married William Henry Whitney on Dec. 6, 1867, in Mount Pleasant, Iowa, and they were living on S. Jefferson St. in Mount Pleasant in 1874. William & Nancy moved to Ottumwa, Wapello County, Iowa, about 1900. They settled in Kewanee, Henry County, IL, by 1910.
Four children:
• Charles Henry Whitney (1868-1931)
• John Louis Whitney (1870-1946)
• George Wesley Whitney (1871-1936)
• Edward Austin Whitney (1873-1936)
William & Nancy appear together in the 1910 Henry County, IL, census in Kewanee. Nancy appears as a widow in the 1925 Iowa state census in Mt. Pleasant with John & Anna. She seems to have been visiting her son in Mt. Pleasant when that census was taken. Nancy was again visiting her son in Mt. Pleasant in 1930 when she had a stroke and died there. She was buried in Kewanee, Illinois, next to her husband, William Whitney.
I believe the stone was placed later and incorrectly shows her birth as 1850. The newspaper in which the obituary appeared was a 1930 newspaper, not 1929 as the stone implies. The obituary states her age as 82, consistent with an 1848 birth.
