An outstanding high school student who received numerous scholarship offers, Jim accepted the offer from LaSalle College and attended 1949-50. He then served in the U.S. Army Intelligence in Korea and Japan 1950-53. (Later he recaptured that period through his novel "The Chosin Tapestries", focusing on the Korean War.) Jim resumed studies at LaSalle in 1954. earning a B.A. in English in 1957. Upon graduation, he taught English at the University of Pennsylvania from 1968-59.
Jim began his teaching career with the School District of Philadelphia in 1960, retiring in 1993. He pursued advanced academic degrees, obtaining a Master's Degree in English from Glassboro [now Rowan] University and his Doctorate of Philosophy from Rutgers Universary. Jim subsequently taught English at Girard College for several years.
Jim and Judy traveled extensively throughout Europe and Asia. His greatest love, in their travels, were their visits to England. His many interests included peotry, economics, political analysis, and the philosophical writings of Hegel, Heideggar and Wittgenstein.
