Gus's parents are linked to him and through them his siblings.

When he was 3 years old his family left Oklahoma (1916) and moved to California. His father had a farm in Oklahoma, but in California he became a share cropper. They moved up and down California over the years, were ever his dad would be able to lease land to grow crops. They also picked cotton and fruit. As a child he was called Goose. When he was little the family had a goose that followed him everywhere, if they were looking for Gus, his mom would call out "goose" and it would honk, so they knew where Gus and the goose were. Because of it his sibleing began calling him "Goose", and it stuck rest of his life.

I do not know how much schooling he had. Of all of his siblings only know of his kid brother finishing high school. When he was younger he worked oil rigs and later got into construction, making a very good living at it. Sadly he was a rough neck, so to speak and loved his drink.

In March of 1934 he married Billie Boman in Bakersfield. To this union a daughter and son were born. Marriage ended in divorce in the late 1940's.

In 1952 He married Eva McIntoch, better known as Mac. To this union one daughter was born. This marriage also ended in divorce in the 1960's.

As with all of my Aunts and Uncles, saw him every couple of years. Being my Uncle, thought him to be wonderful, and loved him dearly. He was funny and quite a character. He was sweet and even came to visit me when I had my first child in 1964. Sadly never saw him again. He didn't show up to his kid sister's (my mother) funeral in 1977 which was a disappointment to us all. His oldest brother and two of his sons had hoped to see him there as well.

My dad visited him almost every time he was out to CA (lived in AR) at his home in Bakersfield, and on his last visit with him in the summer of 1980 or 81, he told us that Gus was in so much pain, doubted that he would live much longer. He had other health problems and we think he had cancer, some say it was liver, do not know for sure.
