Mrs. Clay Johnson Berry (Margaret Hay) died peacefully at her home Friday afternoon, June 28, at age 92. Her family gathered during the days preceding her death to share many loving memories with her.
Margaret Hay was born Sept. 18, 1903, in Houston, the only child of the Rev. and Mrs. Sam R. Hay. She attended Southwestern University in Georgetown, where she was a member of Zeta Tau Alpha. After her freshman year and the appointment of her father as bishop in the Methodist church, she joined her parents on an eight-month missionary assignment on tour in China. She returned to Southwestern, graduated with a degree in history and met her future husband, Clay Berry. They were married in 1927.They moved to Fort Worth in 1929, where they developed a variety of civic and social interests, and many friendships.
Margaret was a member of the Garden Club, the Woman's Club, the Thursday Study Group and the Junior League, and was an active member of First United Methodist Church.
Her primary interest was always her family. She was affectionately known as GrandMargaret by her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Survivors: Two sons and their wives, Clay Johnson Berry Jr. and his wife, Pam, and Sam Hay Berry and his wife, Dorothy, all of Fort Worth; 11 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
