Descendant of Old Family
Mrs Hagaman was a direct descendant of the old English Walton Family. Walton is the name of several villages in England and was derived from "wald" an old English word meaning Wood and "ton" meaning towns. The name was originally applied to a village signifying "the town by the wood".
The first of this family to come to America were four brothers, Nathaniel, Thomas, Daniel and William. The arrived in New Castle, Del, in 1675.
An old record of Trenton, NJ, mentions the name in 1682, when William Walton, of Oxhill, Warwickshire, was granted a tract of land in New Jersey. The Waltons were later found in Philadelphia County, Pennsylvania.
The Walton Family has produced many prominent men and women in virtually every walk in life. Eminent in the business world and in past generations of the Pennsylvania family were Joseph Walton and Charles Walton.
There are descendants of this early family now living in many other sections of the country".
