Joyce was born on Friday November 13, 1936 to parents Joseph Brown and Florence James. She was born and raised in Montego Bay, St James, Jamaica. She was a resident of Norristown, Pennsylvania. Joyce was a skilled seamstress and owned a shop in Jamaica and Norristown. She was also employed at several area nursing homes as a Certified Nurses Aide, most recently at Regina Nursing Home in Norristown and held her last employment with Sharp Packaging Corporation in Conshohocken, where she retired in 2008.
She enjoyed sewing, going to the casino, and playing bingo. She MOST enjoyed being surrounded by her family. Her home was always filled with the sounds of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was the Matriarch to her large, loving family.
Besides her husband, Joyce is survived by a brother: Phillip Brown of Jamaica, sister: Iona Redguard and her husband Rupert, of Blue Bell, PA. Her sons: Lawrence Scarlett and his wife Lisa, of Blue Bell, PA, Richard Scarlett and his wife Angela of Norristown, PA and Everton Scarlett and his wife Janese of Burlington, NJ.; Daughters: Doreen Scarlett of Tampa, FL and Margaret Knight and husband Tony of Horizon City, TX. She is also survived by 21 grandchildren, 27 great-grandchildren, many nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.
She was preceded in death by a brother: Neville Brown, a sister: Catherine Brown-Edwards, a son: Fitzroy Scarlett and a grandson: Courtney Shaw.
