M. Ethlyn Tomlin, 91, of Springfield died at 9 a.m. Thursday at the Regency Nursing Home. She was born on the Peter Cartwright Farm near Pleasant Plains, the daughter of Thomas Almarin and Melinda Belle "Nina" Haymaker Tomlin. Miss Tomlin was a graduate of Normal Teachers College in Normal and had attended the Woman's College in Jacksonville. She taught school in Cantrall, Kincaid, Oakford and Salisbury, Illinois. She was a member of Daughters of the American Revolution and the Westminster Presbyterian Church. She was preceded in death by one sister, Frances T. Stokes. Surviving are two brothers, Edwin A. Tomlin of Elsinore, Calif., and Fred H. Tomlin of Pleasant Plains; three sisters, Anna T. Beard of Greenview, Katherine T. Iben of Rockford and Eleanor T. Ray of Springfield. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Peter Cartwright United Methodist Church, Pleasant Plains, with the Rev. Tim Carlson officiating. Burial will be in Bethel Cemetery. Hensley-Davis Funeral Home, Pleasant Plains, is in charge of arrangements.
