Lt. Bennett was a United States Naval Officer and a World War II and Korean War veteran. He first joined the U.S. Navy as an enlisted man in May of 1927. He was awarded the Navy Good Conduct medal, the World War II Victory medal, the Asiatic-Pacific Campaign medal, the American Defense Service medal with "Fleet" bar, the Korean Service medal and the United Nations Service medal. He was eventually elevated to the Navy Officer's rank of Lieutenant in February of 1946.
