ABINGDON, Va. Karen Lynn Scott McKibben, 51, passed away on Wednesday, Jan. 11, 2012, at her home. She was born July 28, 1960, in Washington D.C. She was a graduate of Chantilly High School in Fairfax, Va. and had worked in grocery and retail while in northern Virginia before moving to Abingdon in 1999. While here, she had worked at Bristol Compressors as well as Barter Theater. She was christened in the Lutheran faith at the age of 12 and was a very kind and giving person. She especially loved spending time with her grandchildren and was so fond of her special cats, Savannah and Skittles. She was preceded in death by her father, William F. Scott and a son, Richard F. McKibben. Survivors include her mother, Charlotte Scott of Abingdon; her daughter, Rachel McKibben Banks and husband, Barry, of Abingdon; her brother, William F. Scott Jr. of Front Royal, Va.; three grandchildren, Katlyn Phillips, Kylie Banks and Kassie Banks; two nieces, Amber Rocena Scott and Jessica McKenzie Scott of Manassas, Va.; and several special aunts and uncles. Funeral services will be conducted at 12 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 14, 2012, in the Main Street Chapel of Farris Funeral Service with Pastor Steve Robinson officiating. Interment will follow in Knollkreg Memorial Park. The family will receive friends at Farris Funeral Service from 4 until 6 p.m. Friday, Jan. 13, 2012.
