Ellen is the daughter of William and Maude Day. She married John Eagle Aug. 28, 1934. They have a son, Robert.
In 1966 Ellen received a degree in music education from Western Illinois University. She worked for the Metropolitan Insurance Company, then taught music for 9 years in Galesburg elementary schools. A member of First United Methodist Church in Galesburg, she served as director of education for 14 years. She was also a Cub Scout den mother, church youth counselor, and played piano at local nursing homes. She enjoyed traveling, camping, photography, arts and crafts and oil painting.
She and John moved to Penny Retirement Community in Florida in 1992 where she led the Sunshine Band.
