Alice Burns, 97, of Parkersburg died Feb. 1, 2002, at St. Joseph's Hospital.

She was born Dec. 18, 1904, in Fairview W.Va., a daughter of the late Ira M. and Martha Critchlow Gilleland. While living in Fairview, she was a member of St. Anthony's Parish, Grant Town,W.Va. She moved to Parkersburg in 1967 and was a member of St. Margaret Mary Catholic Church and the Sanctuary Guild. She was also a former member of the Marion Guild and volunteered at the St. Joseph's Hospital snack bar.

She is survived by one son, Patrick J. Burns, and her daughter-in-law, Mary L. Burns, of Vienna; one sister, Sarah R. Gilleland of Parkersburg; six grandchildren, Ann M. Burns, Major, USAF of Bossier City, La.; Margaret E. Burns of Elkins, Michael A. and his wife Betty Burns of Madison, N.C., James R. and his wife Wanda Burns of Bluefield W.Va., Kathleen R. Burns of Virginia Beach,Va., and John P. and his wife Barbara Burns of St. Marys; five great grandchildren; and three stepgreat-grandchildren.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Albert P. Burns; three sisters; and two brothers.

Mass of Christian Burial will be geld 10 a.m. Tuesday at St. Margaret Mary Catholic Church, Father Edward Bell officiating. Interment in Holy Cross Cemetery, Fairmont with a graveside committal service at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday. Visitation is from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Monday at Leavitt Funeral Home, Parkersburg with recitation of the Rosary at 8 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to either St. Margaret Mary Catholic Church, 2500 Dudley Ave., Parkersburg, W.Va. 26101 or The Parkersburg Catholic Schools Foundation, 3201 Fairview Ave., Parkersburg, W.Va. 26104.
