Thomas Jefferson "T. J." Oakley, age 65, passed on August 28, 1914, in Hickman County, Tennessee.

T. J. was born on April 4, 1949, to the late Hardin Perkins Oakley, Sr. and the late Lieucindia H. Smith Oakley. He married Mary Elizabeth Moss Oakley on January 1, 1880. They made their home on Lick Creek Road in Primm Springs. The house that they settled into had previously been used as a meeting place where former Confederate soldiers would report there and pledge allegiance to the United States of America; however, if they did not pledge allegiance then they would be arrested.

Later, they had a new home built about a mile further down the road and on the opposite side. Years later, Frank Oakley lived there until his death as well as his daughter Christine Oakley and her husband. Currently, the home place remains in the Oakley family.

Interment was in the Mayberry Cemetery.
