Mary E. Kanarr, 73, of Chambersburg, Pa. died early Saturday morning in Menno-Haven Nursing Home after a long courageous battle with cancer.

Born June 22, 1930, in Chambersburg she was the daughter of the late Alvey and Cora Barnhart Hicks.

She was the wife of Richard Wayne Kanarr, who died May 2, 1986. Mrs. Kanarr graduated from Mount Sinai Hospital School of Nursing in Philadelphia 1951 and was employed by the Chambersburg Hospital. She later worked for Chambersburg OB-GYN Associates, from which she retired in 1996. She was actively involved in the community. Her activities included the American Business Women's Association for which she held the offices of president and vice president. A member of Central Presbyterian Church, she taught Sunday school, was a parish nurse, was past president of the Board of Trustees and was an integral part in the recent building project of the church.

She is survived by a daughter, Karen Kanarr Kriska, wife of James P. Kriska, 2 grandsons, Andrew and Aaron, all of Mebane NC, 2 sisters, Isabelle Allen and Catherine Martin, both of Chambersburg, and several nephews. She was preceded in death by a brother Paul E. Hicks.
