Rev. Msgr. Antoine P. Attea, 63 was the son of George and Madeline Attea. He attended the Little Seminary, Niagara University, and the Gregorian University, Vatican City. He was ordained a priest in Rome, on December 20, 1958.
When he returned to the Diocese of Buffalo, he was assigned to the Missionary Apostolate at St. Frances Cabrini parish, Collins Center. He was assistant pastor of St. John and Immaculate Conception Parishes in Buffalo.
In 1966, he became a teacher at Cardinal Mindszenty High School in Dunkirk, serving there for over a decade.
In 1978, Msgr. Attea was named pastor of St. James, Jamestown, a position he would hold until his death. He was also regional Coordinator and Vicar of Southern Chautauqua County. He also served in the Holy Name Society; St. Vincent de Paul Society; the Jamestown Area Ministerial Associates; and as the chaplain to the Catholic Daughters of America. He was also the co-founder of the St. Susan's Kitchen. He was a member of the National Association of Pilot priests, the "Flying Padres."
A gifted and wise priest Msgr. Attea was widely praised for his kindness, concern and experience. He was an expert in computer technology, flew his airplane all over the world, and often helped bring supplies for the needy to other nations. He enjoyed photography, model trains and chess.
Msgr. Attea was killed in the crash of his airplane.
