"Another one of our old friends has passed away. Mort Epler, who died on November 26th and was laid to rest in St. Michaels Cemetery in Astoria, on November 29th. Mort had a long and honorable career, and had been with nearly every show of prominence including Thatcher, Primrose & West's Minstrels, McNish, Johnson & Slavin's, Decker Bros. and Bandmaster with the "Across the Pacific Co." for several years. At the time of his decease he had retired from active life and was engaged in manufacturing and repairing violins and basses. He was the official repairer for the N.Y. Bass Club and they will miss him as will all his friends who have the remembrance of a big noble hearted fellow, who had the respect and esteem of all his fellow musicians. A band of forty pieces under the direction of Dick Halle rendered the "Lost Chord" and " Abide With Me" at the services."
