Earl O. Jensen, age 90, of MaribeL passed away unexpectedly on Jan. 31, 2005 while vacationing in Arizona.
He was born on Oct 6, 1914, son of the late Henry and Minnie Jensen. He married Emily Siebold on Oct. 16, 1937 in Manitowoc County. Together they enjoyed 64 years of loving each other and raising 13 children. Earl was a devoted member of Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Denmark. He became known as the "Candy-man" to all the children who would come to him at the end of the church service for their candy.
Earl was a tough, hardworking man and spent over 30 years as a section laborer for Chicago Northwestern Railroad, where he retired in 1974. After his retirement he gathered up a paint crew consisting of all ambitious young people who were anxious to climb buildings and ladders. He spent 15 years enjoying being "boss" of his crew who looked up to him and always celebrated with him on "payday." Earl quit after doctor's orders of "no more climbing."
He then decided to concentrate all his time and talents on gardening and had a "flower room" added to his house. He had flowers blooming all the time. His outdoor garden was amazing - it was almost impossible to find a weed or plant out of place. Earl would be up at 5 a.m. and worked all day, every day, until late afternoon, and sometimes Emily had to call him in and remind him it was mealtime and time to "call it a day." Many comments were made by people who passed by and were amazed at the perfection they saw in his garden.
He sold strawberries, raspberries and cucumbers for canning and always threw in "extras." Earl donated extra vegetables to the church for anyone who wanted them, and he even brought vegetables to his nurses and doctors. Earl was especially proud of his huge asparagus crop every year. He would get a kick out of watching his children and grandchildren sneaking either in the refrigerator or the asparagus patches to see what they could find. Earl enjoyed his garden to the end - he could be seen bending over his plants while holding his cane and using his hoe for balance. He just would not give up!
During his last year of his life, Earl was told he could not be left alone and needed 24-hour care. He did not want to leave his home so his children rotated and someone stayed with him. His daughter Judy became primary caretaker to be with him every day. Since Earl lost his wife in December 2001, he looked forward to several months each winter with his son Earl Jr. and daughter-in-law Charmaine in Sun City, Ariz. However, this year he only enjoyed four days there before God called him home.

Earl is survived by 13 children: Kenneth (Fay) Jensen Green Bay; Merlin (Sandra) Jensen, Maribel; Judy Le Mense and special friend, Tom Waldorf, Green Bay; Carol (Fred) Fels, Maribel; Earl Jr. (Charmaine) Jensen, Arizona; Dale Jensen and special friend, Nancy Fill, Green Bay, Darlene Johnson, Maribel; Roger (Bonnie) Jensen, De Pere; Nancy Kane, Maribel; Barbara (Steve) Rosner, Green Bay; Christine (Steve) Servais, Green Bay; Janet (Jim) Kinjerski, Denmark; and Randy (Annette) Jensen, Green Bay; 58 grandchildren; 40 great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews; one brother Lloyd Jensen, Maribel; three sisters: Florence Enz, Denmark, Marcella (Norman) Sengbusch, Kaukauna; and Adeline (Art) Heinkel, King, Wis.; his special dog, Spottie; and his recent little friend, Annie, the kitty.
Earl was preceded in death by his wife; parents; infant son: Maynard; brother Roy (Grace) Jensen; sister: Viola (Henry) Gauthier, and a daughter-in-law: Lois ("Louie" Omentum) Jensen.

Friends may call at the Knut-son-Cotter Funeral Home, 536 County R, Denmark, on Sunday from 1 to 5 p.m. Visitation will continue on Monday at Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Denmark from 9 to 11 a.m. Funeral service will be held on Monday at 11 a.m. at the church with the Rev. Ralph Hankermeyer officiating. Burial in the West Danish Cemetery, with his 23 granddaughters serving as pallbearers. The family would like to thank Dad's nephew and wife, Donald and Lil Enz for taking Dad every Tuesday with brother Lloyd, sister Florence, and nephew, Allen Jensen for their breakfast gatherings. Thank you also to the waitresses at Joy's Restaurant for being so kind to our father. –
