Mrs. Margaret Pardue Cooper passed from this life Sunday evening, January 15 at Pine Meadows Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center.

Mrs. Cooper was born in Scottsville, KY January 23, 1920 to the late William F. and Lucy Dunn Pardue. She was the youngest of seven children and received much love from her parents and the older children. They lived in a small Kentucky county seat town where people were neighborly and loving. She loved going to school and to church.

Her teenage years were happy years. She had five good friends - they liked the boys yet were rather shy. She never went more than 60 miles from her home and enjoyed visiting Nashville, where they went occasionally to the State Fair, The Grand Ole Opry and to shop. She started to Western State Teachers College in Bowling Green, KY and after two years of training, she began teaching in a one-room county school; an exciting and difficult experience.

Later, she enjoyed teaching 4th grade and then moving to Louisville, KY to work in a bank and live with her sister. She enjoyed being a member of a church youth group and serving as a hostess in the USO. It was in Louisville that she met her wonderful husband, David Cooper, who was a student at the Southern Baptist Seminary. David and she were married at a small mission church in Porterville, California where Mr. Cooper was pastor. Two years later, she was a very proud mother of a fine baby boy. He made her proud with many achievements including a full scholarship to Harvard and graduating with high honors. Later, he received a Doctorate in Communications from the University of Toronto. She was very proud of her husband as he received many honors both as a civilian and as a Navy Chaplain.

She appreciated the privilege of serving as a homemaker, as a minister's wife and a Navy Chaplain's wife. This gave her opportunities to serve people, especially young Navy wives who had many needs when their husbands were away. She loved to serve as a teacher in churches and was thankful for each opportunity.

After she and Mr. Cooper moved to Bolivar in 1985, she was a member of the First Baptist Church where she sang in the Senior Adult Choir and taught ladies' Sunday School classes. She also served her community delivering "Meals On Wheels" and as a volunteer for hospice working with the terminally ill.

Mrs. Cooper is survived by her husband of 63 years, David Cooper of Bolivar; a son, Tom Cooper and wife Eileen of Swampscott, MA; and a granddaughter, Angelica Cooper of Tarpon Springs, FL.
