Lorraine Janice Thorup, 62, of Salinas passed peacefully in her sleep on February 13, 2011, after a remarkable 2 ½ years with Pancreatic Cancer. Born in Somerville, Mass. on January 8, 1949. Lorraine worked in Nursing Administration and Human Resources at Salinas Valley Memorial Hospital for nearly 20 years and before that, the Produce Center in Salinas. Lorraine's smiles, humor, positive attitude, and warm heart touched all who met her. Nothing was more important than her family. She was a proud wife, mother, sister, and aunt.

She is survived by her husband of 27 years, Jacob, 2 sons Mark Sweeney and Matthew; 1 daughter, Alexis; 1 sister, Nancy Bond of Reading, MA; 3 brothers, Frank, Joe, and George, all of the greater Boston, MA area; 14 nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be held Thursday, February 17, 2011 from 7:00 pm to 9:00 pm at the Struve & Laporte Chapel, 41 W. San Luis St., Salinas, CA 93901.

Graveside Service will be held Friday, February 18, 2011 at 11:00am at the Gonzales Cemetery followed by a church service and reception at 1:00pm at Shoreline Community Church in Monterey.

In lieu of flowers, please make donations in Lorraine's name to the cancer fund of your choosing or Hospice of Monterey.
