Lula Mae Franta Leonard of Baytown, TX, passed away Friday, July 1, 2016 at a local hospital after a long battle of multiple myeloma. She was a very strong, loving, generous mother, grandmother, sister and friend. Lulu, as she was known by her friends and family, was preceded in death by her parents, Sidonia and Charlie Franta, her husband of 54 years, Virgil Leonard, brothers-in-law Wint Leonard, Edwin Leonard, sister-in-law Wilma Powers, sisters Lillian Smith, Lucille Jackson and Linda Kuch and brother Larry Franta.

Lulu lived all her life in the Baytown/Crosby area and settled in Cedar Bayou where she and Virgil raised their three sons. She was one of the last graduating classes of Cedar Bayou High School. Surviving sons are, Gary L. Leonard and wife Amanda, Larry G. Leonard, Lanny E. Leonard. Her great joy was her grandchildren Olivia Leonard, Clayton Leonard, Travis Leonard and Jenni Palomo and husband Johnny who shared their two precious children Kristiana and Cameron as great grandchildren. Lulu is survived by sisters Lorine Trahan, Laverne Trahan, brothers Charlie Franta and wife Betty, Lonnie Franta and wife Sue, Lee Franta and wife Linda and sisters-in-law Carol Franta and Dorothy Leonard. She is also survived by many cousins, nieces, nephews and other family members.

Lulu was known as the begonia lady of Baytown. She had the greenest of thumbs and could grow anything, but her love was of begonias and ferns. She was a member of the Satellite Begonia Club and the Gulf Coast Fern Society. She could not contain her excitement when she discovered a new color of begonia. She shared plants with all members from Pearland to Tomball. She attended all the conferences and distributed plants from California to Florida. She also loved to travel. She and Virgil visited every continent and had many great adventures with traveling friends.

Lulu was very generous to all family members and would do anything for anyone if possible. She was greatly loved and will be greatly missed by many, many people.

Lulu was a longtime member of Memorial Baptist Church.

Special thanks to the doctors, nurses and staff of San Jacinto Methodist Hospital for their sincere and loving care of Lulu. A heartfelt thank you to her son, Lanny and sister Laverne for taking such great care and being with Lulu at home during her late years.

Visitation will be at Navarre Funeral Home in Baytown on Tuesday, July 5 from 5:00pm to 7:00pm. Funerals services will be conducted by Reverend Randy Platt at Navarre Funeral Home in Baytown on Wednesday, July 6 at 10:00am. with burial to follow at Memory Gardens Cemetery.
