Milford D. "Bud" Abel was born on March 4, 1923 in Perry, Oregon to parents, Amiel Mack and Sarah Edith Vasbinder Abel. He died on January 13, 2012 in Hermiston, Oregon at the age of 88 years. Bud was raised above Gibbon on the Umatilla River where he went to grade school and then attended Adams High School, graduating in 1941. He went to work for the railroad for a time before joining the United States Army and serving in the South Pacific in the Philippines during WWII in the construction engineers. Bud was united in marriage to Hazel Moore on February 16, 1946 in Pendleton, Oregon. After his honorable discharge he returned to work for the railroad as a signal maintainer until 1951. Bud & Hazel moved to Weston Mountain in 1951 where they ranched until 2006. They then lived in Milton Freewater until moving to Hermiston in 2009. Bud enjoyed hunting, horseback riding, and refurbishing fiddles and working the ranch.

He is survived by his son: Mack Abel & his wife Susan, Hermiston, OR; brother: Emil Abel, La Grande, OR; sister: Hester Godwin, Yakima, WA; 2 grandchildren: Roy & Bonny; 5 great grandchildren; 4 great great grandchildren; and numerous nieces & nephews.

Bud was preceded in death by his wife Hazel in 2009, his parents, and 2 brothers: Burl and Arden Abel.

A celebration of life gathering will be held later the spring.
