BOONSBORO - Malinda Lecretia Gail Garns Bast, 92, of Boonsboro, died Sunday, Feb. 17, 2002, at her home.
Born Aug. 19, 1909, in Pennsylvania, she was the daughter of the late Luther Walt and Laversa Ella Corey Garns.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Gerald D. Bast Sr.
She received a bachelor's degree from Shepherd College, and a master's degree from Shippensburg College.
She began teaching at Leitersburg Elementary School; and was resource teacher and librarian at Old Forge Elementary School.
She attended Trinity Lutheran Church, Boonsboro.
She was a member of the Retired Teachers Association, the Boonsboro Historical Society, the Smithsburg Historical Society and was a former Girl Scout leader.
She is survived by a son, Douglas G. Bast of Boonsboro; a stepson, Gerald D. Bast Jr. of Charles Town, W.Va.; three sisters, Ruth Mowen of Williamsport, Esther Harrup of Springfield, Mo., and Mary Krempels of Hagerstown; and nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by three sisters, Alberta Hershman, Miriam Garns and Bernice McDearmid; and two brothers, Edward Garns and Paul Garns.
Services will be Wednesday at 10:30 a.m. at Bast Funeral Home, Boonsboro. The Rev. Joseph I. Donovan III will officiate. Burial will be in Boonsboro Cemetery.
The family will receive friends today from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.
