Opal Blanche Bray, 94 of Broken Bow, OK passed away on January 13, 2012. The daughter of Osborne Leonidas Blanche and Minnie Moore Blanche, Opal was born Jan 28, 1917 at the Blanche home on west bank of Mt. Fork River, 7 miles east of Broken Bow, OK near Eagletown, OK. She was a longtime member of the First Presbyterian Church in Broken Bow, serving the church faithfully in numerous activities throughout the years.

She was preceded in death by her husband Robert L (Bob) Bray, her father and mother, her son Jerry Robert Bray, grandsons Robert Lee Bray and Joey Bray, five brothers Alton Blanche, Luke Blanche, Herman Blanche, Junior Blanche, Paul Blanche, and two sisters Louise Gardner Stiles and Emma Gardner Henry.

Opal is survived by son Fred Martin Bray and wife Doris Harris Bray of the home, daughter Rita Bray Montgomery and husband Steve Montgomery of Broken Arrow, OK; brother Dalton Blanche and wife Ginger of Oklahoma City; sister Chillie Jones of Encinitas, CA; grandchildren David Lloyd Bray and wife Sarah (Abigail & Nikki)of Lebanon, OH; Jeffrey Martin Bray and wife Kristen (Kyle &Julianna) of Winchester, MA; Tonya Renee Bray of Altadena, CA; Jerry Robert Bray, Jr, Stanley Bray and Jessie Bray, all of Texarkana, AR; Russell Wright and wife Rhonda (Alex & Angelica) of Tucson, AZ; and Kristy Webb (Jonathan & Savannah) of Oklahoma City, OK.

Opal attended Tiner School, Goodland, Wheelock Academy, and graduated from Broken Bow High School in 1935. She graduated from Business College in Oklahoma City and married Robert L Bray in 1936. Opal (a "Rosie the Riveter") and her machinist husband both worked building the B-24 Liberator heavy bomber in the San Diego, CA manufacturing plant during WWII. Opal and Bob relocated their family back to her ancestral home on the banks of Mt Fork River in 1945. They farmed and eventually turned to cattle ranching and tree farming, which is still in business today. The Mt Fork Ranch has been a favorite location for family reunions and the annual competiive Blanche-Bray Fishing Derby for many years. Opal was an accomplished seamstress, cook, knitter, gardener, square dancer, and ranch and tree farm manager. She loved the land, watching the birds at the feeders, and caring for all the animals on the ranch. She was the chief cook and managed the Charles Wesley Restaurant in Broken Bow for 20 years, widely known for her delicious pies and rolls. She was a longtime member of the McCurtain County Cattleman's Assn, Historical Society, Home Demonstration Club, and Square Dance Club. Miss Opal was a noble woman, deeply loved and respected by all who knew her.

Funeral services will be held at the First Presbyterian Church in Broken Bow at 10:00 am Wednesday January 18, 2012 with the Reverend Joyce Ludwig officiating. Interment will be at the Hochatown Cemetery in the family plot. Viewing will be at the Bunch-Singleton Funeral Home in Broken Bow Sunday through Tuesday, with Family visitation 6:00 to 8:00 pm Tuesday evening January 17, 2012. Those wishing to make charitable donations can designate the Building Fund, First Presbyterian Church in Broken Bow.
