Ethel was the daughter of Charles Henry Watts and Ida May Shively. She married Lee Johnson in 1910. She died later that year of complications from pregnancy.

My grandfather often related this story of his sister: She had many suitors but wasn't interested in any of them. She was considered an "old maid" by the neighbors. When a gentleman would come calling she would hide in the haymow and read a book. She finally accepted a proposal from Lee Johnson when she was 20 years old but died after less than a year of marriage.
