Viola was born on Swamp Road (now called Big Oak Road) in Woodbourne, Bucks County, Pennsylvania. She was the youngest of the five children of Harry Edward Marlin and Wilhelmina Maria Morgenroth.
She had an eigth grade education. She was raised Protestant.
She married Archibald Lawrence on May 23, 1936, at the home of Rev. William Heist of Southampton, Bucks County, Pa. It was a double ceremony with Archie's nephew Philip Lawrence and Violet Mae Phillips.
Viola was a homemaker and mother. She had 4 sons and one daughter, with a miscarriage in 1953. Viola had an artistic streak and loved painting, ceramics, knitting, crocheting and many other craft projects. She was always proud of her cooking, though she tended to overcook meat. A wonderful baker her cakes and pies were unexcelled. In her later years she always had beautiful flower gardens.
