Jimmie Allen Turner, 71, loving husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend, went to be with our Lord on Jan. 6, 2012.

Jimmie grew up in the Eldorado, Kan., area, but most recently lived in Warrensburg. Following high school, he attended IBM Business College. He worked as a pipe insulator for most of his career. Prior to this, he was also employed as a police officer, security guard, oil field worker and as a caregiver.

He volunteered at his local church teaching Sunday School classes and frequently was requested to sing at church and at funerals. He enjoyed the great outdoors, hiking, fishing and traveling. He was a self-taught artist, and his works have been shown throughout central Kansas. He loved to draw, oil paint, sculpture, sing, poetry, garden, cook and bake pies. He loved to make others laugh and provided encouragement to the downhearted. His faith was important to him and he was open with others about what mattered to him and what he believed. He was a man of integrity.

He loved his family most of all, married to beloved wife of 51 years, and spending time with his daughters and their families. He loved spending time with animals, having a variety of pets throughout his life as companions. He attended the First Baptist Church of Warrensburg, the Bennington Bible Church, and the United Church of Bennington.

He was preceded in death by his parents and six siblings.

He is survived by his loving wife, Helen; his three daughters, Laurie Thornhill, Amy Turner, Valerie Boster; and eight siblings, Mary Nuttle, Barbara Hutson, Frances Healy, Carol Goss, John Turner, David Turner, Bill Turner and Richard Turner. He is also survived by two grandsons, Lane and Heath Thornhill, and numerous other relatives.

A private graveside service for immediate family will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 11, at Sunset Hill Cemetery in Warrensburg. He will be buried near the most beautiful oak tree on the hill of the cemetery facing an expansive forest.

A Celebration of Life Ceremony will be held at the First Baptist Church, 1302 S. Maguire St., Warrensburg, from 2-6 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 14, and flowers may be sent to the church.

Memorial contributions are suggested to the Mesothelioma Applied Research Foundation in Jimmie's name. The Web site is www.curemeso.org and address is 1317 King St., Alexandria, VA 22313.

Jimmie's favorite flowers were yellow roses and lily of the valley. Jimmie was one of a kind, a gentle soul whose greatest joy was his love for Christ, for his family and for others. He has left countless memories in the hearts of so many and will dearly be missed by all who knew him.
