Queen of Jordan and third wife of King Hussein bin Talal of Jordan. She was born in Cairo, Egypt - the daughter of a Jordanian ambassador. She married King Hussien December 24, 1972 and bore him two children and adopted a third. The Queen died in a helicopter crash in Amman, Jordan.

She married King Hussein on December 24, 1972, and the couple had three children. Queen Alia was killed in a helicopter crash on February 9, 1977, in Jordan. She was initially buried in the Royal Cemetery at Al-Maquar. However, King Hussein had a large mausoleum built for his late wife on a hill outside of Amman and Queen Alia’s tomb was moved there in 1980."The first of Hussein's wives to be crowned queen, she was his third wife. Alia was active in charitable work and was an advocate of women's rights. She liked fast cars, water-skiing and blue jeans-a style she picked up while studying political science at Hunter College in New York City, where her father was a Jordanian delegate to the U.N.
