EDWARD HANCOCK DIES AT HOME IN RENO

"Resident of Nevada for sixty-seven years, and widely known throughout the state, Edward Hancock died at his home here last night after an illness of some duration. He was seventy-seven years old.

Mr. Hancock was born in England on October 29, 1863. He was brought to Massachusetts at the age of three years, and seven years later came to Nevada. The remainder of his boyhood was spent in Dayton [Sutro] and there he learned the milling trade. He was engaged in mill work in Dayton for a number of years and later went to the Comstock where he continued in the milling business. Twenty-seven years ago he moved from the Comstock to Reno. He was for twenty years connected with the University of Nevada, for all but four years of that time serving on the experiment farm staff. Since leaving the university he had for the last several years been engaged as a custodian at the county library building here.

Mr. Hancock was active in Masonry, being a member of lodge No. 13, F. & A.M. Scottish Rite bodies of Nevada, Kerak Temple of the Shrine, and the Order of the Eastern Star. He had a wide circle of friends.

Surviving are his widow, Mrs. Belle Hancock; two sons, J.L. Hancock of Reno and Len C. Hancock of Carson; two daughters, Mrs. Edna Hardy of Fallon and Mrs. Florence Cool of Oakland; and six grandchildren, Fain Cool, Ethel Hardy, Bill Hancock, Ed, Ann and John Hancock; three sisters, Mrs. Lillian Fowler of Los Angeles, Mrs. Carrie King of Dayton and Mrs. Minnie Davis of Los Angeles; and one brother, John Hancock of Los Angeles.

Funeral services will be held on Friday at the home chapel of the Ross-Burke company, and will be under the auspices of Reno Lodge No. 13 F.& A. M. Burial will be in the Masonic cemetery."
