In 1903 he came west bringing with him his wife and two children where they homesteaded on a farm north west of Murdo. For eight years he was postmaster of Highland, a meeting place of many of the homesteaders and landseekers.
In 1920 he moved to Murdo where he resided until his passing.
During his life he was very active in all church, civic and ledge organizations. At three different times he was sheriff of Jones County.
