Funeral services will be conducted Saturday for Charles Kench of 334 Center street who succumbed at his home Wednesday after a prolonged illness. He was 74.

Mr. Kench was a former Pere Marquette railroad employee, a worked for Michigan Reformatory, and until his retirement last August he was night clerk at the Plaza hotel.

Born in England on June 30, 1880, the son of James and Hannah Kench, he married Nora Pierce of Ionia in 1908, making Ionia his home for the past 50 years.

Survivors are his wife, one son, Charles Jr. of Saginaw; and three brothers, Frank of Ashley, Albert of Lansing and Horace of Ithaca.

Funeral services will be conducted from Boynton funeral home Saturday at 11 a.m., with Rev. Heath T. Goodwin officiating. Interment will be in Highland park cemetery.
