Ernest Coutts, 84

New Haven _ Ernest Coutts, 84 of Whalley Ave., died Thursday at his home after a long illness. He was the widower of Helen Szydlowski Coutts. Mr. Coutts, son of the late James and Wilhelmina Short Coutts was born in New Haven July 11, 1911. He was a public health officer for the New Haven Health Department for many years before retiring in 1981. He was a member of the former Edgewood Club. During World War II, he served as a sergeant in the Army Medical Corps in the Pacific. He leaves daughters, Gail Jacobs of Wayland, Mass., and Pamela Coronato of Staten Island, N.Y.,: and two grandchildren. Memorial contributions may be made to Animal Haven, Box 5651, Hamden 06518.
