A former South Shore man was the victim of brutal murder
Wednesday while working as a night watchman in a Springfield,Ohio department store.
Police found the body of Shirley Martin Craycraft,62
laying in an aisle in the Twin Fair Department store on Springfield's east side after burglars apparently triggered a silent alarm.
Officers discovered the crime at 2:40 A.M. They said the crime at 2:40 A.M.,They said the victim had been shot five times and suffered multiple head wounds inflicted by a hatchet.
Craycraft had been employed at the store about 10 years.
Police theorized the burglars hid in the store prior to closeing.
Craycraft is survived by his wife,Mrs Osa Horsley Craycraft;
seven sons,Paul,James,Eugene,Ralph,Charles,and William all of Springfield,and Clyde of California: four daughters,
Mrs Hattie Stephenson,Mrs Carolyn Welsenberger,,both of California,Mrs Kathy Howard of Springfield,Mrs Christine Mays of Chesapeake,Ohio. Three brothers,George,Sheridan and Stanley,all of South Shore;Two sisters,Mrs. Minnie Hunt of South Shore and Grace Meyers of New Boston,Ohio;and 34 grandchildren.
Funeral services are to be held Saturday at 1p.m. at Robertson Funeral Home here,with burial in Siloam Cemetery
Friends may call at the funeral home after 2 P.M. Friday.
Shirley "Wild Hog" Martin Craycraft was the son of Reuben & Maggie Lewis Craycraft and the husband of Osa Horsley.. the father of 13 children.
