Dennis "Dennie" Ellis was born to Richard Joseph and Sarah Elizabeth Johnson Ford. Dennie was the youngest of eleven children. His siblings were Donnie Elizabeth, Amanda Jane, John Henry, William R, James David, Nellie Alberta, Grady Woodbine, George Grover, Jesse Winnied, Benjamin Butler and Lillie Irene Ford. According to US Census Records, Dennie's father was a farmer.

At the age of 17, on Dennie's WWI Draft Card listed his wife, Anna. He married Mary Anna Roberd and together they had two children and they were Leonard Ellin and Lillian Anna Ford. In the 1920 US Census, Dennie was working at the cotton gin and in 1930, Dennie was working for the railroad. By 1940, the US Census lists Dennie as a preacher for the Assembly of God.

At the age of 64, Dennie passed away and his wife, Anna, died in 1974.
