Graveside funeral services will be held Friday at 11 a.m. in the West Side District Cemetery for former Taft resident Cleo H. Miller, 85. The Rev. Sam White will officiate at the services. Mrs. Miller was born June 10, 1911 in Taft and passed away June 25, 1996 at her home in Santa Maria after a long illness. Her parents, James "Shorty" and Isel McKenzie came to Taft in 1909 for the oil boom. She was the first girl baby born in Taft. She attended all local schools, graduating from high school in 1903. She was an organist at the Bace Theater for the silent movies. Mrs. Miller worked for Sears Roebuck in Taft and Hanford. They moved to Sacramento from Taft in 1959. When she retired from Sears in Sacramento in 1974 she came to New Cuyama and whole living there became an avid oil painter. She was a seamstress all her life. After her husband died in 1986 she relocated to Santa Maria. She was also preceded in death by a daughter Beverly, in 1970, and two sisters, Alila and Vivian. She is survived by a daughter and her husband, Marjorie and Danny Satterfield of New Cuyama; two sisters, Lilda Hogue of Ojai and Lavonne Shrock of Mountain View; six grandchildren; 17 great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
