Verona Evans services held. Verona B. Evans, 99, of Searsboro, died Sunday, Aug. 11 at St. Francis manor in Grinnell. Funeral services were conducted at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Watts Funeral Home in Montezuma, with the Rev. Irene Weitert of the Friends Community Church of Searsboro officiating. Music was provided by Alice Underwood, organist. Pallbearers were James Evans, Delmar Evans, George Evans and Kenneth Beaderstadt. Rebekah services were conducted by members of the Holly Rebekah Lodge of Searsboro. Entombment was in the Masonic IOOF mausoleum, Montezuma. The daughter of James and Diana Wolcott Saunders, she was born on March 9, 1886, near Forest Home in Poweshiek County. She was married to Frank Evans and they farmed near Searsboro. Mrs. Evans moved into Searsboro after her husband's death in 1961. She was a member of the Bunker Hill Booster Club and was past noble grand of Holly Rebekah Lodge. She attended the Friends Community Church. She is survived by four grandchildren; eight great grandchildren and seven great-great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; one son, Leo Evans; two brothers, Frank and Bert Saunders; and one sister, Myrtle Wright.
