-Hilda Holstein-Howard, 93. Hilda passed away Wednesday, December 28, 2011. Hilda was born in 1918 in Portal Township, Burke County, N.D., to parents August and Lena (Feldman) Stallman. At age 17 she relocated with her family to Coeur d'Alene where she has resided since. In May 1937, she married Alexander Holstein. They had four children together and she dedicated her life to her family. She was a fabulous baker, and when she was younger she won several awards for her wonderful home baked cakes. She was famous for her chocolate chip and oatmeal raisin cookies. She also enjoyed crochet, creating many beautiful itmes for her home. Each year she produced a huge garden, canning enough produce to last her family for the winter. She loved holding the family gatherings at her home and always welcomed others as well. She was notorious for never allowing anyone to leave her home without a cup of coffee and something to eat. Her generosity extended to everyone she met, and never met anyone that she didn't like. When her children were grown, she and Alex took up dancing, and attended dances and played cards at the Eagles with their friends. After Alex passed away, she married Mark Howard, and the two of them enjoyed many good years together. She is survived by her sons, William Holstein and wife Linda, and Larry Holstein and wife Lori; and her daughter Connie Willey and significant other Don Boyd. Also surviving her are many grandchildren, great-grandchildren and other family members that she loved dearly. She was preceded in death by her husband Alex, husband Mark, her daughter Helen Hamilton, her parents and her siblings.
