Retired Master Sgt. Robert M. "Bob" Ryder, 77, of Fayetteville, Pa. died at 11:24 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 14, 2004, in Milton S. Hershey Medical Center, Hershey. Born May 13, 1926, in Pascagoula, Miss., he was the son of the late Charles Sr. and Bertha (Rouse) Ryder. Mr. Ryder graduated from Moss Point High School. Mr. Ryder served in the U.S. Army for 20 years. He served in World War II and the Korean conflict and in the European Theater and in Korea. He retired from the military on July 1, 1965. After retirement, he worked for the U.S. Government at Fort Ritchie in the financial department. He retired in April 1989. He and his wife of over 51 years, Miriam M. (Baughman) Ryder, were married April 13, 1952, in Hagerstown, Md. He was a member of Grace Baptist Church, Waynesboro, where he was a past deacon and belonged to the Alpha and Omega Sunday School Class. Mr. Ryder loved playing sports, including playing football with the Chambersburg Cardinals from 1947 through 1950. He also enjoyed woodcarving and hunting. In addition to his wife, surviving are one daughter, Pamela M. Vaughn, Clinton, Md.; one son, Robert M. Ryder Jr., Harrisburg; two granddaughters; two sisters, Charlotte Wood, Moss Point, Miss., and Janell O'Neil, Quitman, Miss.; one brother, Glenn Ryder, Vancleve, Miss.; and a number of nephews. Burial will be in Lincoln Cemetery, Chambersburg.
