Death Takes John Evans, 82, Former Rural Teacher
CLARENCE, Mo., Jan. 20 — John Robert Evans, 82, at one time a rural school teacher in Shelby and surrounding counties and for a number of years proprietor of Enterprise rural store south of here, died at one o'clock yesterday morning at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Oscar Tracy, with whom he had lived for ten years. He had been ill for two weeks.
Born in central Missouri, he spent most of his life in Shelby and surrounding counties where he began teaching school at the age of 19. For several years he taught in Monroe, Randolph, Macon and Shelby counties and then retired from that profession to become proprietor of the Enterprise store. He retired from that business a number of years ago.
He was married to Miss Emma Hutton who preceded him in death. Surviving relatives are three children, Mrs. Hattie Ferguson and Wilbur Evans, both of the state of Washington, and Mrs. Oscar Tracy, south of Clarence; one sister, Mrs. Nina Parr, also of Washington.
