Kansas City MO Motorcycle Police Officer William T. Cavanaugh, was off-duty, sitting in the Irish Tavern (921 East 21st Street) with his fiancee, when a man entered and attempted a hold-up. Though he was in street clothes, Officer Cavanaugh fired on the robber, who returned fire. Cavanaugh was shot several times and he died at General Hospital.
