Eight accidents, involving Hendricks County residents, were reported this week. Mrs. Lydia Monahan, age 68, of Plainfield, was killed instantly Friday morning when the car in which she was riding was struck by another car at the intersection of U. S. 36 and Lynnhurst Drive west of Indianapolis.

Mrs. Monahan was riding with her husband, Charles, who was also injured. They were driving on Lynnhurst and apparently failed to see the stop sign and drove directly onto 36. The driver of the other car, which hit them broadside, was Paul Byrd of Russellville.

Mrs. Monahan hit the windshield and was then thrown from the automobile. Mr. Monahan was taken to St. Vincent Hospital in critical condition and Mr. Byrd was taken to the Veteran's Hospital in fair condition.

Mrs. Monahan was a native of Bowling Green, Kentucky, but had lived at Plainfield for more than 50 years She was a retired school teacher, having taught in the Indianapolis schools. Survivors include the husband, one brother, J. Mark Black of Detroit, and a sister, Mrs. Murray Dalman of Indianapolis.

Funeral services were held the first of the week at the Leon Hall Funeral Home in Plainfield.
