Morris was the son of Henry Brevard HUKILL and Rachel COPELAND. Morris enlisted in Company G, Illinois 62nd Infantry Regiment, on December 15, 1863, while living in Neoga, Cumberland Co., Illinois. He mustered out of military service on March 6, 1866, at Little Rock, Illinois. On March 18, 1869, in Appanoose Co., Iowa, he married Sarah Jane HEDGECOCK. Two children were born to the union. One died as a child (name not known); his son William reached maturity.
