Civil War Union Army Soldier. He enlisted in the 15th Regiment New Jersey Volunteers Infantry on August 2, 1862 and was mustered in on August 25, 1862 as a corporal. He was promoted to sergeant major on November 14, 1863. He was killed in action at the Battle of Cold Harbor, Virgina on June 1, 1864. His original place of burial was at Garthrights Farm in Virgina.
