General Charles A. Desaussure, former commander-in chief of the United Confederate Veterans, died here today.
Despite his advanced age, General Desaussure Continued as an executive of the passenger department of the Southern Railway until the last, frequently working long hours. His death occurred at 5 a.m.
A true Confederate till the end, DeSaussure told reporters in 1932 he wanted no joint reunion of the men in blue and gray.

Memphis May 27--Gen. Charles Alfred Desaussure, commander in chief of the United Confederate Veterans, says he will never be reconciled to any plan for a joint reunion of "Yankees and Johnny Rebs."
"There is no sound reason for us to get together," said Gen. Desaussure, who is preparing to lead his army to its annual encampment at Richmond, Va., next month. "They have their views; we have ours. Such a reunion might serve to awaken memories better forgotten."
