Mrs. Adkins was born Nov. 1, 1928, in Quanah, Texas, to J.D. and Effie (Horton) Melton. She went home to be with the Lord Jan. 29, 2012, at her home in Anton.
She married Bill Adkins May 18, 1946, in Littlefield, and had owned and operated beauty shops in Dalhart and Anton. She was an avid bowler who bowled with several leagues in Littlefield and Lubbock. She also had a love for race horses and polled Hereford cattle. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Anton, where she was quite active in Vacation Bible School and the church choir.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Bill, in 1987; her mother, Effie, in 1984; and her father in 1980.
Survivors include one son, Joe Adkins of Anton; one daughter, Diana Foreman and husband Robert of Amarillo; two grandchildren, Jeff Bolf and wife Cindy of Mustang, Okla., and Shanna Carnes and husband Robbie of Amarillo; and four great-grandchildren, Brooke Betzen, Blake Carnes, Kenadi Bolf and Landon Bolf.
