Doreene Willems Nichols, Rock Island, Illinois, was born June 1, 1924, in Ackley, to Bohle and Jennie Boyenga Willems.

She attended Ackley High School and the American Institute of Business, Des Moines. She worked for Carstens Brothers Hardware, Ackley, and the Shriners in Rock Island.

She attended the Presbyterian Church, Rock Island, and was a childcare provider. She formerly lived in Ackley.

Ms. Nichols died Thursday, November 10, 1994, at Trinity Medical Center, Moline, Illinois. She was 70.

Funeral services were held at 11 a.m., Monday, November 14 at the Brandt-Fritz Funeral Home, Ackley, with the Reverend Charles Kurtz officiating. Elaine Willms was organist with Mike McDowell as soloist.

Casketbearers were Bill Ibeling, David Roelfs, Dean Willems, Shawn Willems, Gary Willems and Randy Roegner. Burial was in the East Friesland Cemetery, Ackley.

Survivors include two sisters-in-law, Thelma Willems, Ackley, and Dorothy Willems, Evansdale; six nephews, Stephen Willems, Arlington, Texas, Gary Willems, Ackley, David Roelfs, Ackley, Kenneth Willems, Crete, Nebraska, and Ronald and Tim Willems, Lombard, Illinois; and two nieces, Joyce Roegner and Jolene Ibeling, both of Ackley. She was preceded in death by her parents; three brothers, George, Arnold and Robert Willems; and two sisters, Marlys Willems and Marian Roelfs.

The Brandt-Fritz Funeral Home, Ackley, was in charge of the arrangements.
