World War 2John Henry Smith, 88, died Sunday, May 3, 2009, in Plainview.

A memorial service will be held at a later date. His body was donated to Texas Tech Health Sciences Center. Local arrangements are under the direction of Kornerstone Funeral Directors of Plainview.

Mr. Smith was born June 30, 1920, to James David and Lela Jane Smith in Lebanon, Ark. He grew up in Arkansas. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He married Floy Doris Tarno in June 1945. They moved to Longview, Texas, in 1952 where they raised their family. He worked for ITT Marlow Pumps as a small engine pump mechanic. He loved to fish and hunt. They moved to Plainview in 2004. His wife, Floy, died Nov. 30, 2006.

Survivors include three daughters and their husbands, Claire and Ross Wortham of Houston, Doris and Mike Barrett of Edmonson and Linda and John Perez of Plainview; four brothers and three sisters; eight grandchildren, Alan Nash, Kim Edwards, Jon Beasley, Gary Eastwood, Kristin Rogahn, Misty Browning, Toni Barrett and Cody Barrett; and nine great-grandchildren, Meagan, Tommy, Jon, Jax, Beau, Kris, Zach, Evan and Kason.
