OBITUARY-ADAMS
James Montgomery Adams, one of Winchester's oldest and best citizens, passed away Dec. 27, 1934, at his home in Winchester. Mr. Adams, the son of William and Jane Dunlap Adams, was born January 24, 1846, near Utica, Ohio, and had lived until the forthcoming January he would have been 89 years of age.
Mr. Adams joined the Reformed Presbyterian church at an early age, and served as an active church member and officer for many years. He was greatly appreciated for his cousel and wisdom in the affairs of both church and community. He came to Kansas in 1872 and located on a farm 2 1/2 miles northeast of Winchester.
On March 19, 1874, he was united in marriage to Jane McClure of North Cedar, by the Rev. J. S. T. Milligan. To this union were born three daughters, Cora Dell, Jennie Irene and Anna Mayme. Two daughters and his wife precede him in death; Irene, August 1, 1909; Mayme, May 28, 1910. In March, 1911, he and his wife moved to Winchester where she passed away July 4, 1921.
He leaves to mourn his loss, one daughter, Mrs. O. H. Curry, of Winchester; 3 grandchildren, Foy A. Curry, Cumberland, Maryland, Cora Dell and Russell of the home address.
The final clause of his last Will and Testament read as follows:
"Finally, I commit my soul unto the hand of my Savior in full confidence that having redeemed it and washed it in His most precious blood, He will present me faultless before the throne of my Heavenly Father. I rest upon the promise, "The Eternal God is thy refuge, and underneath are the everlasting arms." Deut. 33:27.
On Saturday, Dec. 29, at 2 p.m., the funeral service was conducted by the pastor, Rev. James Henery, assisted by Dr. E. K. Patton and Rev. Jesse Mitchel. Interment was made in the R. P. cemetery.
