OBITUARY
Jennie McClure Adams was born at Convoy, County Donegal, Ireland, July 22, 1854. She came to America with the family in a sailing vessel, making the voyage with favoring winds in 17 days. They landed in New York, May 1, 1868. They came directly and settled at Utica, Ohio, and there at the age of 16 years she united with the Reformed Presbyterian Church under pastorate of the late Rev. J. C. Boyd.
In Sept., 1873, the family removed to North Cedar (now Denison) Kansas. Within the year she was married to James M. Adams, March 19, 1874, and came with him to Winchester, Kansas, to farm 2 miles northeast of town. Here Mr. and Mrs. Adams spent 37 years, moving to town ten years ago in March, 1911.
Three daughters were born to them, the two youngest having preceded her to a better land. Irene in August 1909, and Mayme in May, 1910.
For a number of years Mrs. Adams taught the beginners' Sabbath School in the old Church and many men and women present today were members of that Class in days gone by. From that class the pallbearers were chosen. For some years she was Superintendent of the Junior Band. She was always an active worker in the Ladies' Missionary Society. she was made a life member of the Amerian Bible Society by the Sabbath School a short time ago.
She was never absent from Church and always in her place on time, though many times in recent months she was almost physically unable to be present. She loved the House of God.
The young people of this Winchester community of 25 and 30 years ago remember the many pleasant evenings spent in her home and due to her warm hospitality. This hospitality she has continued to exercise even beyond the limits of her strength. Her gifts are scattered throughout the world and especially in this her own community.
She leaves to mourn her loss, her husband, one daughter, Cora, Mrs. O. H. Curry; three sisters, Mrs. Maggie Jones, of Topeka, Mrs. Mary Coulter, of Winchester, Mrs. Tillie Logan, of Hetherington, Mich., and two bothers, Thomas McClure, of Pennsylvania, and James McClure, of Superior, Nebraska; three grandchildren, Foy, Dell, and Russel Curry, and a host of friends.
In her last illness she continually thought of the comfort of others. No complaint ever passed her lips. Her's was a beautiful life that ends not in death but ever lives on in the hearts of her multitude of friends.
To her Master she said, "Thou wilt shew me the path of life. In thy presence is fulness of joy. At thy right hand there are pleasures forevermore."
She passed away about 10 minutes after seven the morning of July 4th, 1921. The funeral services were conducted by her pastor, Rev. E. K. Patton, on Tuesday, July 5th, at 2 P.M., and burial was made in the R. P. cemetery.
